Moving Towards a More Sustainable World

The Ford brand has always taken sustainability seriously. It was the first company in the industry to publish a sustainability report back in 1999, and, while much has been done in the last 20 years to improve sustainability there is still much to do. Fords sustainability aspirations include providing mobility and accessibility for all, responsibly sourcing all raw materials used in all vehicles globally, and using only recycled and renewable plastics in all vehicles globally. The company is committed to using 100% renewable energy for all manufacturing plants globally by 2035, eliminating single-use plastics from operations by 2030, and more.

We are committed to having a positive impact on the planet and the communities where we live and operate,” said Kim Pittel, vice president, sustainability, environment, and safety engineering. By working with our partners and suppliers to find solutions that protect the planet and make peoples lives better, we can make an even bigger impact and reach our goals together.

The vision for the future will build upon the work already done. Just last year, the Ford brand celebrated ten years of soybean-based foam in more than 18.5 million vehicles built in North America and reached the goal set in 2010 to reduce operational GHG emissions per vehicle produced by 30% — eight years early! Whats more, up to 250 recycled plastic bottles are used for new Ford parts in your Ford vehicle. Due to its lightweight, recycled plastic is ideal for the manufacture of underbody shields, engine under the shield, and front and rear wheel arch liners.
